During this elective, you will be introduced to medical education research in the field of anesthesiology and/or anesthesia simulation. You will complete a research project during this elective that can be written on your CV and placed under the research box in your ERAS residency application. If you are interested, this smaller research project can be turned into a poster presentation or publication. Possible poster presentation locations include Indiana Society of Anesthesiologists Meeting, American Society of Anesthesiologists Meeting, Society of Education in AnesthesiaMeeting, or International Meeting on Simulation in Healthcare.

Learning Objectives

  • By the end of this course, a student will... 1) Explore opportunities in medical education research in anesthesiology and identify an appropriate research question(PBLI1)
  • 2) Outline the process for conducting medical education research (PBLI1)
  • 3) Develop a focused research hypothesis and design a research plan (PBLI1)
  • 4) Design the agreed-upon research output (i.e. presentation, poster, paper, etc.) using appropriate writing skills and methodologies (ICS5)

May be repeated x 1 for up to 4-week elective rotation. May apply in pairs or groups to work on a specific project together (with course director approval). This is a two-week (2 credit) elective. The availability numbers indicate the number of students per two-week rotation (i.e. 4 students per each two-week rotation in July).
